Kids' prayers

Bridget has taken a great interest in praying on her own in the past few weeks. While we are thrilled with this and encourage her to pray, it has made for some entertaining prayers. And of course, since Bridget wants to pray, Carter does to. Praying takes a decent chunk of time around here.  :)

I wanted to document some of their prayers (mostly Bridget's, Carter usually just repeats what we tell him to say).

-One night I made potato soup and told her she had to take one bite. She stewed over this bite all afternoon, and at supper prayed (very dramatically): "and God, PLEASE let me like my bite of soup!"

-Another night we had quiche that I added broccoli to. Bridget's pre dinner comment was "what are we eating? Are those vegetables?" I skirted around the issue by telling her it was like breakfast casserole (you know, eggs, cheese, sausage) and left out the broccoli part. Then she prayed "Lord Jesus (her usual reference to God/Jesus), thank you that there are no vegetables in my quiche." Oops. I may have gotten a glare from Luke

-Prayers for everyone's ouchie, headache, tummy issues, and any other ailment we've happened to mention in the past month.

-Thanks for her elephant, Pinkie

-"And Lord Jesus, thank you for this lovely house, and food, and cardboard." I had no idea where the cardboard came from, but after she prayed about it for a few days in a row, I figured out that she meant the chalkboard hanging on the kitchen wall!

-And then from Carter. After spending a Sunday night with our friends Brock and Jodie, Carter prayed (multiple times a day, for almost a whole week) "thank you a Bock and Dodie." They were well covered in prayer that week!

Snuggling Up!

It's been so cold and snowy outside, and since I'm not a big fan of either, we've been hunkering down inside. Like it's been weeks since the kids played outside. They think it's great to walk in the snow in the grocery store parking lot. :)

Luke had a work meeting one evening in Bloomington, so the kids and I snuggled on the couch and watched Marley and Me. Bridget has such a tender heart, especially when other people are crying or upset, and she had tears in her eyes when Marley died. It was so sweet.
I opted for microwave popcorn this night instead of getting out the stir crazy, and it made me realize a huge reason why we use the stir crazy most of the time: these two ate 3 bags pretty much by themselves!

Going to the grocery store pretty much sums up our outings. In recent months we've discovered car carts, and it has made life SO much easier! I feel like I'm driving an 18 wheeler, but the kids have a blast. And since Kroger gives out stickers, that's their pick on where to shop. The other day they were begging for stickers in the check out lane, and the bagger gave them each about 30 stickers! They were quite thrilled, and now there are "I've been Krogering" stickers everywhere.

One day we had a play date with some friends, and little Shiloh got so worn out she fell asleep mid lunch!

When I had my last Dr appointment, my mom watched the kids for the whole day and I ran errands. I had gone to Joann Fabrics and got some material to make Bridget some little outfits. I whipped up this skirt one morning, and I think it turned out pretty cute! It certainly wouldn't win any 4-H blue ribbons, but Bridget was thrilled!

Eating popcorn on the stairs. This was about 3 seconds before they dumped their bowls all over.

This is not the greatest picture, but I had to document Bridget eating baked oatmeal! She's been doing really well in branching out with eating. She only ate about 5 bites, but I was thrilled that she tried it!

Luke's mom brought over a water color book and Bridget spent about an hour one afternoon coloring. She would have finished the whole book if I'd have let her.

Saturday morning the kids ran around in their underwear/diaper and snow boots. They were pretending they were their "blast off boots." They'd stand still and then say "3-2-1, blast off!" and go running around the house.

Saturday night we had a celebration for Luke's mom and dad's 50th anniversary. We did family pictures, then had a nice dinner for all immediate family as well and Ralph and Linda's siblings. Some of the granddaughters put together a slide show with pictures of every year of their marriage, which was fun to watch.  Afterwards we had singing with a bunch of their friends and some more distant family. The day was very tiring, but we also had a really nice time being with everyone and celebrating Ralph and Linda.

Saturday night was a rough night. Bridget woke up about 5am crying because she scratched her ear. She went back to sleep for about 20 minutes, only to wake up again crying. This continued all morning, until we got her up for church. She was so tired, kept crying, and refused to eat anything, so Luke stayed home from church with her. She slept on and off all day. She said nothing hurt and she never had a fever, so we headed over to Leman's to watch the Superbowl. She perked up while there, although she still refused to eat much of anything.
Sunday night was awful. She woke up every hour/hour and a half screaming that her ear hurt. At this point I was sure she had an ear infection. I would go upstairs and put ice water drops in her ear and she'd go back to sleep for a while. We headed to the Dr first thing on Monday, and she was given an antibiotic. I think this is the first time since she was 4 months old that I've taken her in for being sick!

By yesterday she was doing much better, and she and Carter spent most of the morning coloring.

Carter is our medicine lover, and is very jealous of Bridget getting to take medicine twice a day. He keeps telling me "I sick too, mom!"
