Where do babies come from?

I'm sure there's a lot of parents out there that dread the first time hearing their child ask that question. And as a married woman, someday I expect to hear the question and dread it as well. But what I didn't expect was to hear it now...like today.

For a clinical, we have to do a teaching project at one of the district 150 schools. My school was Whittier Primary, and I was supposed to teach about the heart to a classroom of 21 2nd grade students. It all went fine. We looked at life-sized models of the heart, and I gave them tennis balls to demonstrate how hard the heart has to work to pump blood. We also listened to our hearts with stethoscopes that I almost had to sign my life away to borrow from school. Anyway, I finished my whole thing, put everything away, and asked if anyone had any questions. I got some really good questions, like "what does heartburn have to do with the heart?" "What happens when your heart stops beating?" Nice questions like that. Then I nodded to one little boy who raised his hand and he dropped the bomb....

"Where do babies come from?"

I just stood there with my mouth open for a while, not quite sure what to say. And when I did speak, the only words that come out were "ummm." Thankfully, my teacher was in the room with me, and stepped in and gave a very nice, quick explanation that babies came from an organ in the body called a uterus. And that was the end of it.

Clinical

Yesterday was our first clinical in the Nursery at the hospital. My baby was the cutest. He was an African American Male (that's all I can tell you to abide by HIPPA regulations). I did my whole assessment on him, and than I changed his clothes and his diaper and gave him a bath. Then he slept, and I watched him for a while. When I got bored of that, I took him out of his little bed thing and just held him for about an hour. Then I took him to his mom to eat. It was a very relaxing day, and a really fun clinical. I wanted to take a picture of him, but it's not allowed. :-(

3 more weeks of school!!

My last post

I'm not sure what got into me yesterday. I was very fired up about my pediatrics test, but it's all ok now because she changed the due date. It really is very out of character for me to be so mad about something.

On a lighter note, it's a beautiful 77 degrees. I took a walk, and now I can justify the root beer float I'm drinking right now. :-)

I'm mad

I'm very mad at my teacher for pediatrics. She told us last Thursday that our test was online. She said it would be available Friday morning at 8, and would close Wednesday night at 9. I went to take it Saturday, it wasn't anywhere. I emailed her, and several classmates did too. She emailed me back today and told me where it was. It still wasn't there, so I emailed her back and told her it wasn't there. She emailed back and told me to look harder, and that it's been there since Friday morning. It hasn't, she's lying, and I'm mad.

So I emailed her back and told her it has not, and that I want until Friday to do this test. She'd better do it too, or I'm going to the Dean. We've had problems with lying teachers last semester and once this semester too. It's not going to happen again.

Bored

I'm so bored right now. I got all ready to take on on-line test for pediatrics, and it's not up. It was supposed to be yesterday morning. So now I'm killing time on facebook and blogs.

My dear husband went fishing today. If there is a boat there, I will go next time. We're having a date night tonight, and I'm very excited. We're having steak, mashed potatoes, crescent rolls (made by the dough boy himself!), shrimp, and some type of vegetable (which I will cook mostly out of obligation to....something. We don't like veggies very much).

We had a couple come look at our house this afternoon. I had just finished cutting Luke's hair, and the house was kinda messy, so we asked them to give us half an hour. If I don't get things back out soon, I'll never find them again. I stuck dishes in with my sweatshirts, my backseat and trunk of my car are full, and school books and papers are stuck in every spot I didn't think they'd look.

A new blog

Well, I officially can't remember my password and username for my old blog, so here is a new and improved one!
